Democrats won control of Congress on Tuesday night, according to CNBC, which described the results as a rebuke to President Donald Trump and his economic record. Voters cited rising prices, government corruption and the AI data center build-out, the report said.

In Texas, James Talarico defeated Ken Paxton for the U.S. Senate seat, the first Democrat elected to the Senate from the state in nearly four decades. Gina Hinojosa defeated three-term Gov. Greg Abbott, becoming the first Democratic governor of Texas since Ann Richards left office in 1995.

The report also lists Democratic wins in South Carolina, where Annie Andrews defeated Darline Graham, and in Ohio, where Sherrod Brown defeated Sen. Jon Husted. Democrats also flipped Senate seats in Iowa and North Carolina, and won races in Georgia and New Hampshire, according to the report.

CNBC said Trump-endorsed candidates Paxton, Graham and Husted lost after the president made dozens of endorsements.

The report said the data center issue shaped the Texas races. Hinojosa campaigned for a pause on new data center projects until the state adopts tougher rules. The Texas Legislature remains under Republican control, the report said.

CNBC reported that Elon Musk spent record sums supporting Republicans and that Talarico attacked him on the campaign trail. Rep. Chris Pappas, who won the New Hampshire seat, said the results were "a wake-up call for corporate special interests and billionaires who have been rigging the economy." Dow futures fell and S&P 500 futures slipped Tuesday evening, the report said.

Rep. Greg Casar said AI company CEOs should be called to testify under oath. Rep. Robert Garcia, the presumptive next chair of the House oversight committee, said in a statement: "Lawyer up."
